My Beauty is Iain Aitch‘s artistic social history of Margate & Cliftonville beauty queens, taking in shows at the Lido, Dreamland, Winter Gardens, in workplaces, hotels, bars and nightclubs. I am seeking women who took part in any of these shows (whether they won or not) up until 1995. My search includes any shows in the CT9 area, including Westbrook, St John’s and Hartsdown. Iain Aitch is a Margate-born author, journalist and artist who has written extensively about Margate, its history and its creative legacy. His previous Margate art project – Cachet – was shown at Turner Contemporary. This work focussed on youth subculture in Margate as a creative force.

Hi Iain,
I produce a range of Margate tourist t-shirts that I sell via my store on Margate seafront as well as online. I’ve been trying to track the origins of the Miss Margate images with a view to reproducing them on shirts but I’ve been getting nowhere. I can see them on some stock image sites but I’d rather try and licence them through a local individual/company if possible.
Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
